Typical Solar Hot Water Heater Layout
Though there can be tricks and techniqes for installing the in house components of a new hot Water system, most of which a licensed plumber, or even a well-versed DIYer will be able to handle, the typical layout of a Solar Hot Water Heating System is quite simple, and easy to follow.

The graphic belows shows the major components of a typical system, and their general layout within a pretty standard system design. Of course, your needed, or desired, system may be more complex than this. Though not by much.

A typical Pre-Packaged Solar Hot Water Heating Kit from a reputable supplier or manufacturer will generally include:

  • Complete Solar Collector(s)
  • Hot Water Storage Tank w/internal heat exchangers & backup heater
  • Circulating Pump w/variable temperature System Controller
  • Pressure Expansion Tank

Any other components that are needed, including pipes, valves, drain-cocks, etc, can be purchased cheaper through a local hardware store or heating/plumbing professional than they could through a solar manufacturer or distributor.
